Chairman of the AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE IN SPAIN (AmChamSpain www.amchamspain.com) since 2002, consistently re-elected once every three years by the members (last May 2017). Founded 100 years ago, in 1917, and member of Amchams’ worldwide network, AmChamSpain has around 280 member companies – large US multinationals, most of the largest Spanish corporations and SMEs from both countries - which have a combined turnover just in Spain equal to 24% of the Spanish GDP. Throughout his long term in office, Mr. Malet has re-built entirely the entity. Today AmchamSpain is not only a key actor in the US-Spain business and political relations, but also one of the leading business advocacy groups with more than 350 high level executives of member companies working pro bono in 12 different committees. A graduate in Law and Business Administration from ICADE (Madrid), he is the Chairman of Indra since January 2015.

He has worked in different companies and financial institutions. Between 2011 and 2014 he was the CEO of Grupo Prisa. Between 2005 and 2011 he was CEO at Credit Suisse in Spain and Portugal. He was Chief Executive Officer of Grupo Telefónica in 2000-2003. Abril-Martorell has extensive financial experience as Managing Director and Treasurer at JP Morgan in Spain, where we worked for 10 years before joining Telefónica. He is currently a member of Boards of Directors of Ence.

Alejandro Beltrán

Since joining the Firm in 1998 he has worked for several leading international companies, mainly in the areas of corporate finance and strategy and in the Telecommunications and Banking & Infrastructure industries.

In the past he was a member of the leadership team of the Corporate Finance and Strategy practice. Lead this practice in Iberia for 3 years. He is also leading the relations and work with the Public Sector in Spain, where McKinsey has advised in a wide range of keys fronts and areas. Alejandro Beltrán holds a degree in Economics and Business Administration from the Universidad de Navarra and MBA at IESE. Before starting his professional career at McKinsey, he worked in the construction and real estate industry.

At present he is also board member of some non-profit foundations.

For over 25 years, Botifoll, a visionary in business strategy, technology architectures and country digitization, has driven growth and innovation in the geographies he has served. Botifoll is globally recognized for his leadership expertise in digitizing governments, cities and industries. He has focused on revolutionizing government efficiencies, national competitiveness and social inclusion, including improved citizen services, smart cities, connected industries, education, healthcare, and public safety.

During his 18+ years at Cisco, Botifoll has led or contributed to multiple international projects across market segments with an emphasis in country transformation assignments. In Latin America, he has led or contributed to country transformation projects, with an emphasis on digital, in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Argentina, Peru, Panama, Costa Rica, Chile, and the Caribbean.

Botifoll’s multi-cultural leadership strategy of inclusion and diversity has been recognized externally by the Great Place to Work Institute, where Botifoll and his teams have achieved #1 & #2 IT company status across several countries in Europe and Latin America. Botifoll earned an electronic engineering degree from the Escuela Superior de Telecomunicaciones and a Master’s degree in business administration. In 2002, he received a Master’s degree from the Stanford Executive Program (SEP) at Stanford University.

Daniel Carreño

General Electric, President

Daniel Carreño, born in León (Spain), has spent more than 18 years working at General Electric, where he has held various positions, and for the past six years has been the President and CEO for Spain and Portugal. Previously he enjoyed a successful career at Hewlett-Packard, where for seven years he held several positions of responsibility in the Finance and Sales departments. He holds degrees in Law and Economic and Business Studies from the Comillas Pontifical University (ICADE, Madrid) and has extensive postgraduate training. Currently Daniel Carreño is Vice-Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham), and of the Junior Achievement Foundation. Carreño is also a member of the American Business Council, the Association of Advancement of Management (APD), Franklin-UHA Institute, and IESE Madrid Governing Body. From 2010 to 2014, Carreño was Chairman of the Spanish Federation of Healthcare Technology Companies (FENIN).

Helena Herrero

Helena Herrero is President and CEO of HP for Spain and Portugal since July 2012. Besides, she holds the role of General Manager of Printing and Personal Systems (PPS) for Iberia region.

She has been Vice-president of HP Spain and Portugal, and member of the Board of Directors since 2002. Previously, and since she joined HP in 1982, Helena has covered different management positions in HP in various segments like Consumer, Public Sector, Large Accounts and Small & Medium Business. Additionally, she has been responsible for the development of HP channel and distribution organization for all products in Spain and Portugal.

In addition to her executive responsibilities, Helena Herrero actively participates in prominent business, governmental, social and cultural forums. Helena is a trustee and chairs the Fundación I+E Innovación España whose main mission is to contribute to a favourable climate for international investment in R & D and innovation in Spain. She is a member of the Board of the American Chamber of Commerce, member of the Board of the American Business Council, trustee of the Fundación Consejo España- EEUU, member of the Business Advisory Council of the Spanish Confederation of Employers (CEOE) and a member of APD (Asociación para el Progreso de la Dirección). Helena is also a trustee of FUNDETEC and was appointed president from 2010 to 2012. FUNDETEC is a non-profit foundation that encourages the development and usage of Information and communication technologies by citizens and SMBS. Also she serves on the Board of Junior Achievement, she is member of the patronage of the Royal Theatre of Madrid and represents HP in several women and management forums in the country.

She has been named “Executive of the Year 2013” both by FEDEPE and the Executives magazine.

Helena was born in Madrid, Spain, is married and mother of children and holds a chemical sciences degree from Madrid Complutense University. She also holds Management and postgraduate degree from INSEAD and IESE.

Luis Isasi

Luis Isasi is Country Head and Chairman of Morgan Stanley, S.V., S.A.U. and Morgan Stanley Spanish Holdings, S.L. Board Member of Grifols, and Madrileña de Gas, and Vice Chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce in Spain.

He joined Morgan Stanley as a Vice President in 1987. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley he worked first as Assistant Treasurer in the Latin American Department of Morgan Guaranty and then, from 1984, as a Vice President of First Chicago Ltd. with responsibility for investment banking in Spain and Portugal.

Luis Isasi graduated from the University of Seville with a degree in Business Administration in 1978. He has an MBA from Columbia University (Beta Gamma Sigma) in 1982.

Simón Amselem

The Walt Disney Company, Country Manager to Spain and Portugal


Simon Amselem was appointed Senior Vice-President and Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company Spain and Portugal in November 2009. In this capacity, he leads the integrated organisation and has full responsibility for all company activities in this region.

Since he joined Disney in 1996, Simon has held a number of senior positions within the company in three different countries.

During 2008 and 2009, based in London, he was Senior Vice-President Channel and Sports Distribution Europe, Middle East & Africa (EMEA), leading the team in charge of managing platform relationships and conducting carriage deal negotiations for Disney and ESPN television channels in EMEA.

Between 2005 and 2008, as Senior Vice-President and Managing Director Disney Television France, he was responsible for operating and distributing Disney channels in French speaking territories.

In 1997, he was appointed Vice-President and Managing Director Disney Branded Television Iberia; in this role, he managed the launch of Disney Channel Spain in 1998 and then the launches of Playhouse Disney and Toon Disney in Spain and Disney Channel Portugal in 2001.

Simon joined Disney from Capital Cities / ABC, where he was Vice-President European Operations ABC Cable and International Broadcast during 1995 and 1996. Prior to this, he was a founding partner of the consulting and investment company Iberacción, S.A. in Madrid (1989-1995) and had worked for two years as a Corporate Finance Associate at Shearson Lehman Brothers in New York City, after obtaining an MBA from Columbia University Graduate School of Business in 1987.

Simon is fluent in 4 languages (English, Spanish, French and Portuguese); he is married and has three children.

Paloma Beamonte

Xerox, President and CEO


Paloma Beamonte took office in January 2010 as the General Manager and Chief Executive Officer of Xerox España. Since then, her main objective has been “growth”, maintaining Xerox's leadership in both large accounts and SMBs, despite the current difficult economic times. To meet this challenge her strategy has been to redirect the company's focus towards the document outsourcing services, providing business processes that make intensive use of documents, this strategy was initiated several years ago and driven further more by the acquisition of ACS (Affiliated Computer Services) in 2010.

Throughout her career, Paloma Beamonte acquired an extensive experience in managing human capital over various leadership positions held. In 2000, she was appointed Director of Human Resources and developed several programs of 'coaching' and 'mentoring' to maximize the skills and abilities of all employees. Furthermore, she has also helped in maintaining the global strategy on diversity of Xerox with the development of various programs, such as flexible working hours program or the accumulation of nursing hours to increase the period of maternity leave. Thanks to these and many other programs directed and launched by Paloma, Xerox Spain was awarded this year the ‘Distintivo de Igualdad’ (Equality distinction award) by the Spanish Ministry of Health, Social Policy and Equality (only 36 out of 600 companies presented were able to achieved this distinction).

At the present time Paloma Beamonte is the only woman CEO in Xerox Europe, nonetheless, Xerox is a company with a known outstanding tradition of incorporating women in senior leadership positions, as our current Global CEO is Ursula Burns, who in time was succeeded by another woman, Anne Mulcahy, architect of Xerox’s great change to a global services oriented strategy. Paloma’s career at Xerox clearly reflects the company’s philosophy "to nourish talent", as she began working for the company in 1990 as a commercial agent, since then he has been responsible for various areas, amongst them as the managing director of Human Resources, of the Outsourcing Services division and Commercial Channels Distribution.

Paloma is from Madrid, mother to three children, and has an experience of working in the IT Sector for over 20 years with an in-depth knowledge of the Spanish market. She graduated in Advertising and Public Relations at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. From her personality, one would highlight her enormous vitality and her commitment to diversity and equal opportunity, independently of gender.

Jon Bilbao is General Manager of Dow for Spain and Portugal and Sales Director Western Europe for Dow Industrial Solutions. Jon joined Dow in Barcelona in 1985 as Acount Manager for Specialty Plastics and Films business. Between 1985 and 1991, he held various sales positions in Specialty Chemicals and Emulsion Polymers. In 1992, Bilbao moved to Horgen, Switzerland, as Product Marketing Manager for Cellulose Ethers and Surfactants for the European area. In 1997, he moved to Madrid, Spain, as Product Marketing Manager for Methyl Cellulosics for Europe and Latin America. Since 2000, Bilbao has held several Sales Director positions in Latex, Basic Chemicals and Performance Chemicals. In 2014, he was named Sales Director Western Europe for Dow Industrial Solutions and, in March of 2018, he expanded his responsilibities assuming the role of General Manager for Spain and Portugal. Bilbao is a licentiate in Economic and Managerial Sciences by the Universidad Comercial de Deusto, in Bilbao.

José María de la Torre is the Managing Director for Hewlett Packard Enterprise Southern Europe and President for Spain.

José María is a senior executive with 30 years of experience within the IT industry. He joined Compaq in 1999 as Personal Systems Group Director. Since then, he has covered different senior management positions in HP. He is the Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Enterprise since August 1st,, 2015.

Prior to joining HP, José María has held several leadership positions in marketing and sales organizations in Zenith (Bull), Fujitsu ICL, Toshiba Personal Computer; Jose Maria started his career as consultant in Arthur Andersen (Accenture).

In his managing director role José María represents Hewlett Packard Enterprise in relevant business and leadership fora. José Manuel González-Páramo

José M. González-Páramo is Ph.D., M.Phil. and M.A. in Economics from Columbia University. He also holds a Ph.D. from Universidad Complutense. In 1988 he was appointed Professor of Economics at UCM and from September 2012 he is a Professor at IESE Business School. From 1985 to 1994 he was an economic adviser to various public and private institutions including the Banco de España (1989-1994), the European Commission, the IMF and the World Bank Group. He served as a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB) from 2004 to 2012. He was a member of the Governing Council of Bank of Spain (1994-2004) and of its Executive Committee (1998-2004). In June 2013 he was appointed Executive Board member of BBVA. Among other responsibilities in the group, he is the Chief Officer, Global Economics & Public Affairs, and the Chairman of its International Advisory Board. Since December 2016, he is the Europe chair of the TransAtlantic Business Council (TABC), the official business advisory group to the European Commission and U.S. administration on international trade, investment, and regulatory issues. Since February 2018 he chairs the Spain-Peru Council Foundation, a non-profit body set up with the aim of fostering relations between the two countries. He is also vice chairman of the Spain - United States of America Council Foundation. A Fulbright scholar, he is a member of the European Academy of Arts and Sciences and Full Member of the Real Academia de Ciencias Morales y Políticas (Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences).

Trinidad Jiménez

Trinidad Jiménez is a Spanish politician, born in Málaga in 1962. Graduated in Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid, she is an International Relations expert having the opportunity to participate in numerous political and professional conferences and rountables. She has published around a hundred of press articles, and she has travelled all over the world leading international and professional delegations.

Since February 2016, she has occupied the post of Public Affairs Global Strategy Director at Telefónica, S.A. Before joining Telefónica, she assumed the positions of PSOE’s Social Politics Secretary since July 2004; was a Member of Parliament; Speaker of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and member of the Committee on Health and Social Affairs, as well as the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Under Prime Minister Rodríguez Zapatero, Trinidad Jiménez served as Minister of Foreign Affairs (2010-2011), and as Minister of Health and Social Affairs (2009-2010). Prior to that, she served as Secretary of State for Latin America (2006-2009).

In 2003, she was the Socialist Party candidate for the City of Madrid.

In 2000, Trinidad Jiménez was elected Secretary of the International Policy of the PSOE’s Executive Board, being reelected to office in 2004.

For family reasons, between 1990-1995, she lived in Equatorial Guinea, Israel and Cameroon working as a university professor, returning to Spain returning to her political career being responsible for Political Relations with America in the Office of International Affairs of the PSOE for five years, and advisor to the Global Progress Commission of the Socialist International.

During her Law degree, in 1983 she founded the Socialist Students Organization in the Autonomous University of Madrid, joining as a member of the Spanish Socialist Political Party (PSOE) in 1984. From 1985 until 1986, she combined this activity chairing the International Relations Committee of the Youth Council of Spain.

He read Business Studies and completed a PDG (General Management Programme) at the EADA (School of Senior Management and Administration).

He is chairman and CEO of the Hotusa Group, a group of companies to which he has dedicated his entire professional career and has managed it since its founding in 1977.

Founded in 1977 and with its headquarters in Barcelona (Spain), the Hotusa Group is today a dynamic organization made up of many different companies working in a wide variety of areas of the tourism sector. Pilar López Álvarez is the Country Manager of Microsoft Spain. She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Major in Finance from ICADE University (Madrid, Spain) Pilar López has spent most of her career in Telefónica, one of the largest telecommunications companies in the world in terms of market capitalization and number of customers. Prior to this, Pilar worked in a variety of roles at J.P. Morgan, the US banking corporation, in Madrid, London and New York, where she became Vice President.

Pilar López joined Telefónica in 1999, working in a number of finance and strategy positions across the European and Latin America businesses, including Financial Controller in Telefónica Móviles, Strategy Director in Telefónica de España, Chief Financial Officer of O2 Plc. based in London and Chief Financial Officer for Telefónica Europe based in Madrid.

Before joining Microsoft, Pilar López led the operational simplification program for Telefónica. She is a Non-Executive Director of Wolseley Plc, the world’s largest trade distributor of plumbing and heating products and a leading supplier of building materials. Marta Martínez was appointed Country General Manager for IBM in Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel in January 2013. Prior to this position, she was General Manager of IBM Global Technology Services Spain, Portugal, Greece and Israel and, since 2006, vice president of Sales for these countries.

Marta Martinez joined IBM in 2003, when she started working as a communications industry executive for Spain and Portugal. In 2008, she had an international assignment at IBM’s headquarters in the United States, being vice president of infrastructure services worldwide.

Graduated in Biomedical Engineering from Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, Katherine began her professional career at ConvaTec, a BMS company (BMS sold ConvaTec in 2008). Later, she worked at Lilly and thirteen years ago, she joined Celgene. In her first contact with the world of work at ConvaTec, she was able to know in depth the operation of a company by working on different aspects present in the development of a product, such as regulatory, design or marketing. She also worked managing the sales team of different products for two years. At Lilly, she worked in the marketing department defining the strategic objectives in the pre-launch period of some products. She started her career at Celgene in 2005 as a Global Marketing Product Manager and kept on knowing how the company works by occupying different positions in the sales and marketing departments of the hematology and oncology franchises, always working to improve the life of patients, as the company’s philosophy says. Before her appointment as Vice President General Manager of Celgene Spain and Portugal, Katherine’s entire working life had elapsed in the United States of America. However, her extensive professional career -she has over 20 years of experience-, her knowledge of -almost- all the company’s working areas, where she knows how and what is being worked on, her demonstrated leadership capacity and her Hispanic roots, which make her speak fluent Spanish, were decisive for Katherine to assume the general management of the Celgene’s Spanish and Portuguese affiliates, settling in Madrid at the end of 2017, where she lives with her husband, her three children and Roxy, her dog.

Javier Targhetta

Javier Targhetta (Madrid, 1948), graduated as a Mining Engineer at the Polytechnic University of Madrid in 1971and was later awarded an MBA by the IESE (University of Navarra, 1987). After complementing his studies with practical work in Germany and England, he began his professional career in the field of metallurgical research, joining the AIPSA project, sponsored by the Explosivos Rio Tinto and the Tharsis Copper & Sulphur Groups.

After various senior positions in the fields of international engineering, coal trading and shipping/stevedoring, in 1985 he was appointed Chairman and CEO of Elcano, the leading Spanish shipping company. In December 1990, he joined Atlantic Copper as CEO. In 1993 Freeport‐McMoRan, Phoenix, USA) acquired 100% of Atlantic Copper and Javier Targhetta was confirmed in the position which he holds today. As from July 2005 he also holds the responsibility of Freeport‐McMoRan’s worldwide copper ores sales as Senior Vice President Marketing & Sales.

Among other responsibilities, Javier Targhetta currently is Vice President Commissioner of P.T. Smelting (Indonesia) and Associate Professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Until June 2008, Javier was Chairman of the Spanish Large Energy Consumers Association and from 2007 through November 2011 he was Chairman of Eurometaux (European Association of Non‐Ferrous Metals Producers).

He is Vice Chairman of Fortia, one of Spain’s largest electric power distributors and member of the Board of Directors of MAXAM, one of the world’s leading civil explosives producers and member of the High Council of Spain’s Engineering Institute.

Javier Targhetta is fluent in English, German, French and Italian, in addition to Spanish, his mother tongue. Javier is married and has two daughters.

US EMBASSY

Richard Duke Buchan III was sworn in by Vice President Michael R. Pence on December 11, 2017 as the U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra. Mr. Buchan is the Founder (2001) and CEO of Hunter Global Investors L.P., based in Palm Beach, FL (formerly in New York, NY). Hunter invests in global markets including real estate, venture capital, private equity funds and public securities. Hunter’s flagship multi-strategy fund cumulative returns since inception are approximately 2.3 times the S&P 500 Index. Prior to founding Hunter, Mr. Buchan worked at several large global financial firms based in New York City. He has travelled, lived and conducted business for over three decades in Spain and other European countries, Latin America and Asia. Mr. Buchan is involved in a number of educational and philanthropic causes. As an example, his family established The Buchan Excellence Fund, the largest single endowment at The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill focused on Spanish languages, literature and culture. The Fund supports, among other things, a video exchange program between American and Spanish schoolchildren called 21st Century Pen Pals. He also recently served as Vice Chair on The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill’s Arts and Sciences Foundation Board of Directors. Mr. Buchan is a 10th generation North Carolinian who grew up on his family’s tobacco and cattle farms. He, his wife and their children continue family traditions and manage farms that grow over 100 varieties of heirloom tomatoes and vegetables, and raise horses. They run a farm stand, develop new varieties of tomatoes and donate fresh produce to local charities. Mr. Buchan received a BA in economics and Spanish from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985, and a MBA from Harvard Business School in 1991. He first lived in Spain over 37 years ago. He attended La Universidad de Valencia in Valencia, Spain in 1980, and La Universidad de Sevilla in Seville, Spain from 1983 to1984. He speaks Spanish and has a working knowledge of Catalan.
