It is a pleasure to share The Bridge Report 2026: Spain–U.S. Economic Relations, our inaugural edition of what we aim to establish as the leading annual reference on the economic relationship between Spain and the United States.

 

This report highlights the true scale of a strategic partnership that conventional metrics tend to underestimate, capturing the full extent of investment flows and the depth of economic integration between the two countries.

 

Key figures include more than €213 billion euros in accumulated direct investment in both directions, supporting over 340,000 jobs, as well as investment commitments in Spain exceeding €36.6 billion euros in digital infrastructure for the 2025–2030 period. In addition, U.S. portfolio investment in Spain totals $183.9 billion (approximately €170 billion euros), significantly expanding the overall financial exposure of the United States within the Spanish economy.

This document proposes a roadmap to double the industry's contribution to Spain's GDP by 2035, reaching 22%, by using energy resources, digital transformation and public-private collaboration.

The labor reform has promoted many necessary changes in some labor institutions that were, for the most part, anchored in the past and has established a new model of labor relations that is gradually establishing itself in the productive fabric of Spain. The position paper prepared by a working group of the AmChamSpain HR committee analyzes and reflects on these aspects and proposes a series of adjustments to fully deploy the resources of labor reform, with the aim of improving the competitiveness of companies, both smaller and also those that generate a large volume of employment, which are the vast majority of those that are part of AmChamSpain.

Proposals for Spanish economic competitiveness, which includes the study Women Leaders: Reflections for the Decade 2010-2020 in which twenty executives from various sectors of the American and Spanish business environment reflect on the structural reforms that Spain needs.

Based on the Spain 2020 guidelines, this document includes AmChamSpain's proposals on energy policy. It aims, among other things, to establish a large state pact in the field of energy policy, to increase legal certainty and regulatory stability and to end the tariff deficit.

This document presents AmChamSpain's proposals for the development of the digital economy as a key to resume economic growth, based on the axes of e-efficiency, public-private collaboration, smart cities, e-health, safeguarding of privacy and the introduction of ICTs in SMEs.
